Housing of various types appear in a lot of my 1980s photographs and are scattered across the various albums, especially the Street Scenes. The emphasis in this section, therefore, is on the problems associated with some of the older public housing on the Island and on the construction of new housing by the private sector.
Many of the interior photographs were taken to highlight specific public housing problems associated with poor maintenance and structural damage caused by nearby pile-driving in the docks. One housing block in particular - Cubitt House in Roffey Street - had deteriorated to the point that, in 1985, legal action had to be taken by the tenants to force the council to act. My photographs were taken and used to support the tenants' legal case.
