In 1985 the third ‘People’s Armada to Parliament’ was organised by docklands community groups to petition the government over its obligation to meet the needs of local people. The event comprised of a flotilla of decorated cruisers which progressed from Docklands up the river to the Houses of Parliament and back to Jubilee Gardens on the Bermondsey riverfront. The event was funded by the Greater London Council, led by Ken Livingstone
